I’m Back!

After a very long and much needed hiatus, Taneisha Marie Photography is back up and running. I will resume taking in submission requests for 2019-2020. I am primarily looking for opportunities for portraits, lifestyle, and fashion. However, I will look over wedding opportunities as they arise as well but the wedding clients I take will be very limited. So, book now! ♡ In the meantime, here are some images from over the years to give you some insight on what i’ve been up to since you last saw me around.

Over the last three years, the vast majority of my time has been spent working and rediscovering myself as a person. We’ve all been there. It’s a part of the circle of life really. Now i’m back to focusing on my true passion and love in life - photography. I’ve truly missed it but it has not been forgotten. As I’ve traveled, met new people, found new passions, I’ve tried documenting them through imagery. New passions like cooking and dancing. Well, there’s no photos of me dancing but let’s just say I do it often and it’s a great way to exercise. But more importantly, I’ve been trying to learn to focus on myself more, which for me, is a very hard task.

Sometimes, you have to take a step back and refresh in order to fully devote yourself to a passion. Otherwise, it starts to show in your work and everyday life. Now that I’m back on track, I’m so happy to get back to the world I love so much. I’d love to capture your emotions and life with my camera and document them in a way that truly captures your true persona. Feel free to contact me, or meet over coffee (or wine ♡), if you have any questions!

Cat + Nick | Engagement

And I'd choose you,
in a hundred lifetimes,
in a hundred worlds,
in any version of reality,
I'd find you and
I'd choose you.

- The Chaos of Stars

Cat and Nick are a delightful pair. Their love is so luminous, it could light up a room. They're sweet and kind and the admiration they have for each other is beyond inspiring. Shortly after Christmas, they will join hand-in-hand to make their vows to one another; and I'm so excited to be a part of their big day. Photographing them for their engagement celebration was a beautiful experience. We got to know each other a little better and I got to witness just how perfect they are for each other.

Congratulations Cat and Nick! I wish you both the best until we meet again for your beautiful day.

Gretchen + Ryan | Engagement

The most beautiful thing
about young love
is the truth
in our hearts
that it will last forever.

- a t t i cu s

In less than a month, Gretchen and Ryan will be taking a vow to one another; in a bond of marriage. Their hearts have belonged to each for years and will continue to do so with every sunrise and sunset. I cannot wait to capture their big day. It will be such a beautiful moment and I'm sure I'll tear up a little.

Photographing them for their engagement session during the summer was such a fun experience. I get a lot of joy from photographing couples in love. You get to see them interact naturally; the complete admiration in their eyes. It was as if I was watching a fairy tale book take place right before my eyes with lots of laughs thrown into the mix. This is one of the many reasons why I love my job.

Gretchen and Ryan, you two are amazing. See you soon! ♡

Surber Family Lifestyle Portraits | Winchester VA Photographer

Lifestyle sessions are definitely one of my favorites for portraits. I specialize in portraits, but there's so many different approaches to them. I've always identified myself as a natural photographer, but lifestyle takes it another step further. It's a style that has been around for decades but I feel as if it went dormant for a while and now it's alive again. What is lifestyle, you may ask? Long definition short, it's a photo-documentary. It's photographing someone in their element - whether it be at home, in their office/studio, at their job, or at their favorite hang out spot. At-home sessions are my favorite of the bunch. That's everyone's comfort zone! Fortunately, Lacy and Trey were kind enough to let me photograph their family in their comfort zone.

I can't express how excited I was to finally meet this family and photograph them. From our communication over the past few months, I felt like I knew them before I had even met them. They're so sweet and kind, so is their new little bundle of joy. This is their session. Enjoy! xo

BLANDY FARM STYLED WEDDING
September 26, 2015

I have put so much into this woodland forest session. I have been planning for a little over a month with a vision, research, finding the perfect dress, making the flower bouquet and boutonnière, and finding the perfect couple. It was no question that I was going to use Blandy Farm in Boyce, VA as the venue for my project because it never ceases to amaze me. Kelsey and Ryan are such a sweet and fun couple. I've photographed them before for my book and I knew I needed to use them again for an extended photoshoot. They brought their A-game and did a beautiful job - they even danced for me. <3

This is a romantic, whimsical wedding styled session filled with laughs, smiles, and lots of kisses. The couple may not be married in reality, but they pulled off newly weds very beautifully. We were even congratulated by a stranger (haha). The weather was kind and we didn't have any issues. It was the perfect day - especially for a real wedding! I highly recommend using this location if you're in the area and engaged.

The next time I do a styled session, I would love to use local vendors to create a full wedding experience, but this time, I made due with what I had. I'm very, very proud of this session. I love seeing a vision of mine in my head and then making it happen for all to see! It makes my job so much more special to me. I hope I have caught your eye! Enjoy the rest of the images. <3

Winchester VA Photographer | Lilly, "the looking glass"

Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph a dear old friend of mine. Lilly and I were best friends in middle school and we haven't seen each other in eight years! A lot can change in eight years and while our lives are different now, catching up and laughing about the past felt the same. The most beautiful thing about this experience is that now we've reconnected as friends and will definitely see each other more in the future. That's another thing about my book that I love. It has given me the opportunity to sit down with old friends, catch up, and reconnect - but also seeing how beautiful my friend's are.

While I knew Lilly when we were preteens, I got to meet a version of Lilly that I've never known - a wife and a mother. She's still the same person, but now her life revolves around the people that are so near and dear to her. I met her precious daughter, Vivian, and I can see why! The love between them was a sight to see and I'm so proud of my friend. As always, I can't wait for you to hear her story in my book that will be available in two weeks! <3

Being a mother is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love being someone’s everything.

Sarah has a beautiful soul. Primarily, I have known her as an artist over the years. She's the first person that I've met that loves fashion photography as much as I do, but also hates the industry. We both agree that the beauty in women should not be altered or modified to meet societies standards. A few years ago, I had the honor to be a part of her senior gallery exhibit focusing on said views. A few years later, I've asked her to be a part of mine and to be a part of something that focuses on how beautiful and inspiring woman can be - not who society wants them to be.

I was so ecstatic when she agreed to be a part of my project! She's so passionate about art and how it matters in the world. I always looked up to her when we were in school together. She was a role model to me through academia and as a person. I can't wait for you to hear her story, amongst the others. <3

and thank you Shelby for being an extremely photogenic pup. <3

Gretchen is a very caring person, a loyal friend, future wife, and fashionista. Talking to her was so much fun and such a fascinating experience. A lot of the women I have interviewed thus far have had one or two people in their life that have inspired them, but Gretchen finds everyone in her life to be an inspiration to her! The people that have supported her, helped her, have been there for her over the years have made her more open-minded in life, especially her fiance, Ryan.

This past year has not been easy on her, but what I saw before me was a woman that held her head high with her feet on the ground. Her late mother's words have pushed her through these past several months --her mother admired her bravery and how strong of a person she is. Being someone that has also lost their mother at a young age, I truly admire Gretchen's bravery and can easily see her mother's words carry on with her. She's a beautiful, inspiring, and strong woman. I'm so proud of her and so honored that she was willing to be a part of my book.

Winchester VA Photographer | Molly | Mini Session

Hello again, friends. As you may have been following, this is continuation of the updates I promised for photo book that I'm working on. Now, I won't post from every session that I have with these fabulous ladies, but I will post as much as humanly possible. If you don't know what I'm talking about, my previous blog post talks about it. Keep a look out because once I've chosen my final book cover, I will post the details of the book, information about how to order one when it's completed, and about my solo exhibition soon to come this September!

Once again, in the meantime, please enjoy this mini session with this wonderful and beautiful woman, Molly! I have known her since grade school and she's blossomed into quite an inspiring person.
