Winchester VA Photographer | Lilly, "the looking glass"

Winchester VA Photographer | Lilly, "the looking glass"

Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph a dear old friend of mine. Lilly and I were best friends in middle school and we haven't seen each other in eight years! A lot can change in eight years and while our lives are different now, catching up and laughing about the past felt the same. The most beautiful thing about this experience is that now we've reconnected as friends and will definitely see each other more in the future. That's another thing about my book that I love. It has given me the opportunity to sit down with old friends, catch up, and reconnect - but also seeing how beautiful my friend's are.

While I knew Lilly when we were preteens, I got to meet a version of Lilly that I've never known - a wife and a mother. She's still the same person, but now her life revolves around the people that are so near and dear to her. I met her precious daughter, Vivian, and I can see why! The love between them was a sight to see and I'm so proud of my friend. As always, I can't wait for you to hear her story in my book that will be available in two weeks! <3

Being a mother is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love being someone’s everything.

Sarah has a beautiful soul. Primarily, I have known her as an artist over the years. She's the first person that I've met that loves fashion photography as much as I do, but also hates the industry. We both agree that the beauty in women should not be altered or modified to meet societies standards. A few years ago, I had the honor to be a part of her senior gallery exhibit focusing on said views. A few years later, I've asked her to be a part of mine and to be a part of something that focuses on how beautiful and inspiring woman can be - not who society wants them to be.

I was so ecstatic when she agreed to be a part of my project! She's so passionate about art and how it matters in the world. I always looked up to her when we were in school together. She was a role model to me through academia and as a person. I can't wait for you to hear her story, amongst the others. <3

and thank you Shelby for being an extremely photogenic pup. <3

Gretchen is a very caring person, a loyal friend, future wife, and fashionista. Talking to her was so much fun and such a fascinating experience. A lot of the women I have interviewed thus far have had one or two people in their life that have inspired them, but Gretchen finds everyone in her life to be an inspiration to her! The people that have supported her, helped her, have been there for her over the years have made her more open-minded in life, especially her fiance, Ryan.

This past year has not been easy on her, but what I saw before me was a woman that held her head high with her feet on the ground. Her late mother's words have pushed her through these past several months --her mother admired her bravery and how strong of a person she is. Being someone that has also lost their mother at a young age, I truly admire Gretchen's bravery and can easily see her mother's words carry on with her. She's a beautiful, inspiring, and strong woman. I'm so proud of her and so honored that she was willing to be a part of my book.

Hello again, friends. As you may have been following, this is continuation of the updates I promised for photo book that I'm working on. If you don't know what I'm talking about, my previous blog post talks about it. Keep a look out because once I've chosen my final book cover, I will post the details of the book, information about how to order one when it's completed, and about my solo exhibition soon to come this September!

Once again, in the meantime, please enjoy this mini session with this wonderful and beautiful woman, Molly! I have known her since grade school and she's blossomed into quite an inspiring person.

Winchester VA Photographer | Eileen | Headshots

I had the pleasure of photographing this lovely woman recently in the beautiful Shepherdstown, WV. She is taking a step into the world of theater and performance and asked me to take some headshots of her. I mean, how can anyone say 'no' to that? She is such a treat to work with and she has this beautiful energy about her. We tried about six different locations and her surroundings complimented her in every way, no matter where we were. It was a very sunny day and I was nervous that we would have issues with lighting. Ha! I was proved wrong.

She's a very talented individual. Eileen is a great writer and a brilliant romantic. I know that whatever she does, she will succeed at it. That's just in her nature. In this session, I didn't want to just take your typical, cliché headshots that you see on a playbill. I wanted to capture her romanticism so that her future employers will know who she is. I will say, I'm very proud of my final product and I can't wait to hear about all of her great accomplishments with it. <3

Thank you Shepherdstown Sweet Shop Bakery in Shepherdstown, WV for allowing us to invade your space for this photo session! :)

Winchester VA Photographer | What to Expect When You Hire Me

Winchester VA Photographer | What to Expect When You Hire Me

hello. this is me.

hello. this is me.

Have you worked with me before? Well, if you haven't and you're thinking of hiring me, I want to take the time to go over what to expect during and after our photo session.

There are two primary sources that I use for my portfolio and advertising, the website that you're currently on and Facebook. My website is the best source to view my work and where you can get a good sense of my style. On my website, you will find my most recent work, an excerpt about myself, my blog, and all of my prices and packages. This is a great start in your process when inquiring about hiring me. On Facebook, that's where I make all of my announcements and share all of my blog posts. This is where you can find all of my old work, but I do not post full galleries on there because my website gives better quality and capabilities.

Next is how to contact me! Under my tab "Investment", there's a contact form where you can fill out your inquiry, your name, and email. I will get in touch with you within 48 hours! My business number is also posted on the page and you may text or call me as well if that is something you prefer. When I get back in touch with you, I will offer a free consultation over coffee to meet with you! I believe that it is best to meet with each other in person so that we can get a sense of each other's personalities and get to know each other. This way, we will know if we're a good fit.

Great! Now that we've met or discussed your goals and mine, what is going to happen during our session? I like to make all photo sessions as stress free as possible. Each photo shoot has a unique experience! We may grab coffee beforehand because...well, coffee is absolutely wonderful. I may play some 90s classics during our session (gotta love the 90s). I'll tell jokes, share stories; it'll be just like spending time with a friend. This doesn't mean that I don't take my job seriously. The beautiful part about being a photographer is that your job is challenging and serious work, but it's also a lot of fun. Doing these things are not a distraction to me but it helps both of us get into the groove of things and create natural shots. There will be some business formalities that will take place to finalize our session, but 98% of the session with be fun.
I promise. :)

For portrait sessions, all final products will be delivered to you within two weeks. For weddings, all final products will delivered to you within 30 days. I don't like to rush through the editing process. Every session is very important to me and I devote all of my time to your session before taking on another job. During this time, I edit your images, review them, add finishing touches, create personalized gifts, print in-house, cut them down to size by hand, prepare all final documents, then gather all materials to ship them to you! It's a lot of work and I love every minute of it. Seeing your final product is equally as exciting for both of us!

I love seeing my work completed, knowing I did all of it by hand with a personal touch. I love the anticipation of your final product getting to you and hearing of your reaction. This isn't a hobby for me and it's not just a job. This is my life and my passion. I take it very seriously and professionally, all while enjoying every moment. I hope this gave you a good idea of what to expect when you hire me. I truly hope to work with any of you in the future!

Graduate: Hannah Coffey
Photo Shoot Location: The Woods Resort in Hedgesville, WV
Graduation Date: 05.27.15

This little chickadee has blossomed into quite the young woman. I grew up with her older sister as best friends and I quickly merged into their wonderful family - that was twelve years ago. Now, here she is, graduating from high school and moving on to go to WVU to study psychology. It blows my mind how quickly time passes. She's had quite the year and nothing is slowing her down. Needless to say, I'm very proud of her and wish her all the best. I know her family is just as proud as I am and are excited to see her through the next part of her journey in life.

Congratulations Hannah!!

Winchester VA Photographer | Prom in Hedgesville, WV

Winchester VA Photographer | Prom in Hedgesville, WV

It was a perfect cloudy day when I met with these anxious teens in Hedgesville, WV to photograph their gorgeous dresses and tuxedos before their senior prom. We were outside for an hour and a half to capture their moments together and about 60 seconds after leaving the location, it poured! Talk about luck! Granted, it was a little chilly but it was worth it.

This was a nostalgic session for me. I'm sure you all remember your senior prom. My senior prom date was a good friend of mine and I had the most amazing dress I have ever owned. It was black and white, floor length, with a braided strapless top. We met with a big group of people to go out to dinner and danced the night away 'til the very end. Seeing how excited they were, how much fun they were having, reminded me of all of this! They were a really fun group. There were several moments when they couldn't hold a pose because they were laughing so hard - which was very contagious. :)

Another reason why this season was so nostalgic for me is because it reminded me why I got into this business. My passion for photography originated in sixth grade when I was just twelve years old. At a young age, I realized how important it is to capture and cherish all memories through photographs. Mental memories are wonderful but physically seeing them on screen or prints lasts so much longer! You can look back and be reminded of someone or of a moment at any time. We didn't have fancy cameras or video cameras growing up and I wish we did! I envy those that have home videos or a photographer that photographed their 1st birthday. I hope these girls and boys look back 10, 20, and 30 years down the road and are so touched that they were able to have these memories captured!

Portraits | Sarah

This past week, I photographed my friend, Sarah, for her acting portfolio and we had an amazing time. We've been friends for about seven years now and she has grown so much as a performer, actress, and singer/vocalist. Her determination to better herself and learn more as never ceased to amaze me. She has worked so hard throughout college and she deserves whatever great things the future holds for her. I just hopes she remembers me when she hits Broadway. ;)

These portraits were shot in Downtown Winchester - one of my favorite locations. There's so much that you can do with your surroundings in that area. I mean, there's a backdrop on every corner. Usually, I choose to shoot in a scenic, woodsy type of area because that's naturally beautiful. I also enjoy finding brick, stone walls, or just a colorful door. A stranger even let us use their back porch - although we were trying to be respectfully sneaky. Then again, Winchester (especially downtown), is very supportive of the arts.

These were simple portraits and headshots, but we had a lot of fun with them. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed each others company. If you have any questions about my portrait sessions or headshot sessions, feel free to contact me to inquire about my prices and packages! In the meantime, here are Sarah's portraits from our photoshoot. Enjoy!

Winchester VA Wedding Photographer | Lauren & Justin

There's no better day to photograph a wedding than a snowy day. Well, for some, maybe there are - like summer days or any day of the year that's dry and sunny. But the snow didn't stop us from doing this photoshoot. To see the full set and other wedding or engagements images, click the button below.

Lauren&Justin | Faux Wedding

Lauren&Justin | Faux Wedding

One may ask, why photograph a fake wedding? Well, for portfolio reasons mainly. But for this assignment, I had been asked for wedding-type images that didn't really show the couple's face. I looked through my archives of weddings and engagements and it was slim pickings for a faceless couple. Instead of feeling defeated, I decided to stage a wedding couple to satisfy my clients. Now, I knew that it has been snowy lately and that there would be snow on the ground but I had no idea that it was supposed to snow today.

My boyfriend and I traveled from Winchester to Hedgesville to pick up my faux bride and help her prepare for the shoot and she sent me a text that said, "Uhhhhh be careful in the snow". I look outside and it's completely dry and I said, "Ehhhhh. It'll be alright". Well, we go up I-81 N and once we cross the West Virginia line, it starts to flurry. Now, this is a dusty snow, so I figure it was going to be nothing. I was wrong. We get to Martinsburg and the roads are covered, slushy and the snow was coming down much harder - but I was determined to continue this venture.

My faux bride and groom are ready to go and we get in my (now magnificent) Kia Soul to go towards Poorhouse Farm. We had the idea to find a closer location, so we try the high school track. Big mistake. We get stuck. Like, we may not make it out of this, kind of stuck. Luckily, my boyfriend is great in bad situations and in the snow and he maneuvers the car in every direction and gets us out of the area and back onto a safer road. Thank you Kia for making my car's traction control and anti-lock brakes so wonderful - and thank you Matt for being a better driver than me. <3

Fast forwarding through many, "Are we there yet" questions, we reach our destination about an hour later than when we were supposed to start. We almost got attacked my beautiful geese and I, several times, almost fell for the snow's illusion that there was not a giant lake present and that I could just walk across to the destination I had in mind. But we made it! My friends were troopers. I bribed them with coffee cakes and extra towels for warmth. But all-in-all, i believe today was a success. I hope my client feels the same. :)

Come one, come all! This is the photoshoot that I have been talking about for over a month now. It was a lot of work, a lot of planning, and a lot of excitement. As some of you may know, fashion is my primary love when it comes to photography. There's so many creative ways that you can show off hair, makeup, and clothes. It never ceases to blow my mind. So, when I got the message offering me the chance to photograph Alice Ness' idea, I believe time stood still for a moment. I would do it again in a heartbeat. We worked in a minimal space, but accomplished so much. Alice did such a beautiful job on these girls. I highly recommend you visit her website and glance through her portfolio and call her asap. She is a true visionary and wonderful to work with. We collaborated and I present you with the results. Each model had their own story and played their own part. Our collaboration created the story of a lifetime. That's what the circus is all about, right? ;)

\\ Special Thanks //

I know this is very cheesy and cliche, but it's necessary. There's a couple of people that I would like to thank for helping me with this photoshoot. First and foremost, I want to thank my dear friend, Laiken Summerson (whom you've seen in the "Flora|Fauna" photoshoot). She has helped spread the word about my work and was the person who help set up this photoshoot and make it happen. A million, million times, thank you Laiken. :)

I want to thank my professor and mentor at Shepherd University, Rick Bruner, for allowing me to borrow and obscene amount of lighting equipment and truck it back and forth from WV to VA to MD and then back to VA to WV. Thank you for giving a helping hand yet again, even after I've graduated. It means a lot to me.

And a very special thank you to my boyfriend, Matt, for supporting me through this entire process and for supporting me throughout my entire photography career and for the many years to follow. You've helped my tremendously during this shoot and many in the past, but you've also encouraged me through and through. Thank you. :)

Thank you everyone for your support! I'm very proud of this photoshoot and I hope to do many more in the future. <3
