Winchester VA Photographer | What to Expect When You Hire Me

hello. this is me.

hello. this is me.

Have you worked with me before? Well, if you haven't and you're thinking of hiring me, I want to take the time to go over what to expect during and after our photo session.

There are two primary sources that I use for my portfolio and advertising, the website that you're currently on and Facebook. My website is the best source to view my work and where you can get a good sense of my style. On my website, you will find my most recent work, an excerpt about myself, my blog, and all of my prices and packages. This is a great start in your process when inquiring about hiring me. On Facebook, that's where I make all of my announcements and share all of my blog posts. This is where you can find all of my old work, but I do not post full galleries on there because my website gives better quality and capabilities.

Next is how to contact me! Under my tab "Investment", there's a contact form where you can fill out your inquiry, your name, and email. I will get in touch with you within 48 hours! My business number is also posted on the page and you may text or call me as well if that is something you prefer. When I get back in touch with you, I will offer a free consultation over coffee to meet with you! I believe that it is best to meet with each other in person so that we can get a sense of each other's personalities and get to know each other. This way, we will know if we're a good fit.

Great! Now that we've met or discussed your goals and mine, what is going to happen during our session? I like to make all photo sessions as stress free as possible. Each photo shoot has a unique experience! We may grab coffee beforehand because...well, coffee is absolutely wonderful. I may play some 90s classics during our session (gotta love the 90s). I'll tell jokes, share stories; it'll be just like spending time with a friend. This doesn't mean that I don't take my job seriously. The beautiful part about being a photographer is that your job is challenging and serious work, but it's also a lot of fun. Doing these things are not a distraction to me but it helps both of us get into the groove of things and create natural shots. There will be some business formalities that will take place to finalize our session, but 98% of the session with be fun.
I promise. :)

For portrait sessions, all final products will be delivered to you within two weeks. For weddings, all final products will delivered to you within 30 days. I don't like to rush through the editing process. Every session is very important to me and I devote all of my time to your session before taking on another job. During this time, I edit your images, review them, add finishing touches, create personalized gifts, print in-house, cut them down to size by hand, prepare all final documents, then gather all materials to ship them to you! It's a lot of work and I love every minute of it. Seeing your final product is equally as exciting for both of us!

I love seeing my work completed, knowing I did all of it by hand with a personal touch. I love the anticipation of your final product getting to you and hearing of your reaction. This isn't a hobby for me and it's not just a job. This is my life and my passion. I take it very seriously and professionally, all while enjoying every moment. I hope this gave you a good idea of what to expect when you hire me. I truly hope to work with any of you in the future!

There's no better day to photograph a wedding than a snowy day. Well, for some, maybe there are - like summer days or any day of the year that's dry and sunny. But the snow didn't stop us from doing this photoshoot. To see the full set and other wedding or engagements images, click the button below.

One may ask, why photograph a fake wedding? Well, for portfolio reasons mainly. But for this assignment, I had been asked for wedding-type images that didn't really show the couple's face. I looked through my archives of weddings and engagements and it was slim pickings for a faceless couple. Instead of feeling defeated, I decided to stage a wedding couple to satisfy my clients. Now, I knew that it has been snowy lately and that there would be snow on the ground but I had no idea that it was supposed to snow today.

My boyfriend and I traveled from Winchester to Hedgesville to pick up my faux bride and help her prepare for the shoot and she sent me a text that said, "Uhhhhh be careful in the snow". I look outside and it's completely dry and I said, "Ehhhhh. It'll be alright". Well, we go up I-81 N and once we cross the West Virginia line, it starts to flurry. Now, this is a dusty snow, so I figure it was going to be nothing. I was wrong. We get to Martinsburg and the roads are covered, slushy and the snow was coming down much harder - but I was determined to continue this venture.

My faux bride and groom are ready to go and we get in my (now magnificent) Kia Soul to go towards Poorhouse Farm. We had the idea to find a closer location, so we try the high school track. Big mistake. We get stuck. Like, we may not make it out of this, kind of stuck. Luckily, my boyfriend is great in bad situations and in the snow and he maneuvers the car in every direction and gets us out of the area and back onto a safer road. Thank you Kia for making my car's traction control and anti-lock brakes so wonderful - and thank you Matt for being a better driver than me. <3

Fast forwarding through many, "Are we there yet" questions, we reach our destination about an hour later than when we were supposed to start. We almost got attacked my beautiful geese and I, several times, almost fell for the snow's illusion that there was not a giant lake present and that I could just walk across to the destination I had in mind. But we made it! My friends were troopers. I bribed them with coffee cakes and extra towels for warmth. But all-in-all, i believe today was a success. I hope my client feels the same. :)
